High school just got way too complicated.
LOGLINE: Best friends, Krista and Marlie walk up the steepest hill ever. They discuss their soon to be high school careers, all they will leave behind, and the “adulting” of their friendship.
SYNOPSIS: Krista and Marlie are best friends. They slowly walk up the steepest hill ever. It is the day before they graduate middle school. Tomorrow brings the excitement of high school. They discuss what to expect but also determine what to leave behind - childish ways, uncool attire, and maybe even friendships that just won’t work out in this new adult-like world.
PROJECT: space___d is a short (5 -7 minute) film about adolescence - that age when shaping your identity seems clear and absolute. I use the word “adulting,” to reference this childish notion that there is an adult/mature/right way to be. Krista and Marlie are the closest of friends but they come to the conclusion that their friendship will have to end because it’s just immature. space___d will be filmed in the plain neighborhood of Ingleside, San Francisco, CA. space___d will be shot on 16mm. The film will use the talents of illustrator Cat Luigan (catluigan.com) to add some weirdo pictograms. Inspirations come from photographs and films by Larry Clark (Ken Park, KIDS, Wassup Rockers). The photo series Age of Adolescence by Joseph Sterling. Also the editors, writers and photographers of Rookiemag (which I tumble alot). The photography collective the Arduous. And also Girl Core. I am ultimately inspired by all the girls out there doing their thing young and old. space___d is bright, sunny, loud, booming, fun, retro, rocker, 80s, 90s, sea punk, goth and everything cool about daring to be young and wearing your heart on your sleeve.
